Over 29 years, Edward had the pleasure of working in a wide variety of bands with a number of great people and wonderful musicians. Here are some of the bands that he's worked with over the years, : Aquavinyl, Badboys, Panama, The Troublemakers, Sabre, Once, Mary McPage & Three Shades of Blue, Shelly & the Raging Rhythm, Bushwhacker, and the Seattle Electro-Magnetic Pot Luck Orchestra. Everthing from Classic Rock to Motown, R&B, Blues, Jazz, Country, New Wave, Alternative, Heavy Metal, Disco, Funk, Hip-Hop, Fusion, Drum -n- Bass, and most anything else you can imagine.... His longest tenure was as a member of Badboys. Working primarily as a duo with a brilliant musician named Denny Matney, he learned a great deal about MIDI & Sequencing while working with PC's & several racks of MIDI gear in a live enviroment. Playing all over Washington state for several years provided an invaluable experience to grow as a performer and vocalist. They also enjoyed a prolonged stay as house band at a very popular nightspot on the Eastside ( Kirkland, Wa. ) and hosted parties, bikini contests, etc....... Edward was also an employee of Experience Music Project ( in Seattle Wa. www.emplive.com) for four years ( working technology), and during this time, met a vast number of amazing people & talented musicians. While at EMP, he met a unique individual named Reek Havok, who would come to play a significant role in his musical life. Edward joined a jam band with Reek called the Seattle Electro Magnetic Pot Luck Orchestra, along with Bryan Yates ( Guitar), Dave Chick (Keys/Guitar) & Alan Loucks (Keys). They had the good fortune of hosting a monthy Jam Session at EMP in the Liquid Lounge for a year & a half, and the PLO got to jam with hundreds of excellent musicians from all over the world, Musicians from all walks of life came to celebrate & play. A Cellist from Brazil, a Drummer from England, A Celtic Songstress, A Trombone player from the Seattle Sympohony Orchestra ( soloing to Jimi Hendrix's " Hey Joe" How cool is that ? ), people came from everywhere to join in on the fun. Emp's own employees contributed significantly to many of these nights with their talents and energy as well. EMP never really had a house band ( despite hundreds of musicians working there ), but the PLO was the closest thing to one, and those nights were sometimes quite magical........ In 2002 & 2003, He wrote and developed music curiculum for EMP's Education Dept. as part of "Jazz in January", a month long celebration of jazz music, and performed as a soloist, in a duo, and trio with local jazz musicians Darren Reynolds and Eric Verlinde. This was a great opportunity to reach out and teach young kids about Jazz .( MP3's of this performance can be found on the Music / MP3 page ). During those years, Edward performed extensively around the state with a number of different bands, and he enjoyed the challenge of playing a huge variety of excellent music. In August 2002, Edward & Reek performed an "experimental Drum & Bass gig " at EMP's Liquid Lounge where they proceeded to make a lot of strange and wonderous noises ! Performing with no rehearsal and with reckless abandon, they deconstructed a number of great songs by The Beatles, Weather Report,The Police, Stanley Clarke, etc. and put their unique spin on them. In the process of doing this they also created some very cool music ! Check out the MP3 page on this site for a few audio clips from ths gig. Reek and Edward hope to have the chance to develop this project further in 2006-2007 and beyond. The bass & vocals.........that's E.P., .......all the squonks and bonks and strange noises............... ....that's ALL REEK, BABY ! During part of his tenure with EMP, Edward began working with a very talented guitarist & producer named Curtis Chandler ( who is the lead vocalist / guitarist of Symon Asher ) and contributed bass parts to his compositions ( which were used extensively by EMP). He also collaborated with Curtis & Keyboardist / Composer Dave Chick to create music for Experience Music Project's major exhibits ( like "Uncommon Objects" & the Sci-Fi Museum "Interplaetary Lounge" w/ DC ). Curtis and EP contributed music for MTV World Aids Day (AIDS public service announcement) and we also created music together that was used to promote Annie Leibovitz's "American Music" photo exhibit on Radio & Television ads (This amazing photo exhibit was debuted at EMP in 2003). Over the last year or so, they've begun to write and record some great original music together , and have discussed creating an EP in the near future. The synergy of their musical styles has created some compelling music, and there are audio clips on the MP3 page for your listening pleasure. Dave also contributed an AMAZING B-3 solo on "Can't Find the Words" from Edward Paul's debut CD "Changes".
EP wrote - "I always liked this photo. My Warwick Bass is a really beautiful instrument and this pic really shows it in a good light . "THUNDEROUS TONE" everyone I've worked with loves the way it sounds." | |||||||||||||||
